Three Reasons, Not Rejection, Why Employers Don’t Follow Up After Interviews

Introduction

A job seekers asked, what does it mean when an employer does not follow up with them after the final round of interviews.

Possible Reasons

Well, it depends; and there are a lot of circumstances that could impact that employer’s not getting back to you. The first possible reason is that you emerged as the second top candidate. The second is that they are working out budget changes related to hiring for the position. The third, and final possible reason is that some other business-related circumstance may have delayed their ability to follow up with you more quickly.

First Possible Reason:

One possible reason is that you could have emerged as candidate #2. They may have extended an offer to their top prevailing candidate and are waiting to see if negotiations such as salary and total rewards package will be successful.

They want to maintain your enthusiasm for the job and may not yet be ready to let you know that you were the second-highest ranked candidate. They also want your morale to be high should you end up joining the organization.

So hold tight. I know that seven days is a long time

Second Possible Reason:

The other could be that there may have been some type of budgetary impact. They may have to get some additional approvals for an increased hiring salary range to bring a new person into the position.

Third Possible Reason:

There could be some other type of business situation to arise that has impacted or delayed their ability to follow up with you. Especially here in the United States with the rising number of COVID-19 cases everyone is keeping a close eye on that issue and it could have subsequently created some other business-related circumstances that could have impacted or delayed their ability to get back to you. So, don’t give up yet.
