Welcome to my motivational moment entitled, “Serve Someone Today,” with Cynthia O.

MOTIVATION:

Do you equate serving others with weakness? Regardless of how the world may perceive it, serving others is actually a sign of strength, self assuredness, and confidence. The late, great Maya Angelou, is quoted saying that, ‘a great soul serves everyone all the time. It never dies. It brings us together again and again.’ Serving others is also a sign of compassion. Think about it, does weakness come to your mind when you hear the name Maya Angelou, or Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, President Jimmy Carter, President Ronald Reagan, President Barack Obama, or the man in the picture, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? Of course not. For many of us, they are all consummate pillars of strength who committed their lives to using their unique gifts to serve others.

We can serve others in big ways, but many times, the small ways that we serve others makes just as big of an impact on them. Our actions make them feel special, loved, valued, and worthwhile. Believe it or not, when we serve others, we enrich our own lives by taking our focus off ourselves and hopefully building a greater sense of gratitude for our many blessings. Then, serving others can also help us heal from hurt and disappointment that we’ve experienced. It even helps us remember that many people would love to have our lives.

So, as we close out this Black History Month, hopefully, you see that the value in serving others is great…for them and you. Let’s never die as the impact of our service to others today lives on. Let someone who needs it know that they still matter.
