Motivation – Adjust Your Focus and Move Forward

INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to my motivational moment entitled, “Adjust Your Focus and Move Forward,” with Cynthia O.

MOTIVATION:

When I started writing this motivation, I was listening to Joyce Meyer’s sermon titled, “How Your Mind Affects Your Physical and Emotional Health.” It was such a timeless message. One wisdom nugget that she shared was that, “Your life cannot go forward if your mind is going backwards.”

It made me think of times when I  stopped talking to a friend because I was upset with them about something. I remember that I woke up each morning thinking about them. Then, I went to bed at night thinking about them. The problem consumed me so much that I found it difficult to focus on anything else. Why? Because I was too busy focusing on the rift between my friend and me. I quickly realized that conflict breeds confusion and uncertainty.

Over time, I forget just why I was upset in the first place. It became clear that regardless of still being upset with my friend, I missed them. This made me second-guess if being upset with a dear friend was worth the strain it caused on our relationship. As I continued to mature, I decided that our difference didn’t matter as much as the friendship itself. I then changed the way that I dealt with differences between me and others because saving relationships is so important to me. So, I’ve grown to realize that it’s okay to “agree to disagree.”

I now also quickly offer an apology if I’ve offended someone. That way, all involved can focus on strengthening our relationship as we move forward in confidence with a pure heart. What a great source of peace…I’ll take it.
