Welcome to this motivational moment entitled, “Forget the Mistake, Remember the Lesson,” with Cynthia O.
Regardless of how awesome our intentions may be, we all make mistakes. Why? Because we’re human, which means that we’re not perfect. Sometimes, though, when we make a mistake, we continue to dwell on it as if we are in a season of mourning. In other words, we take too long to move past it. Instead We worry about what others think about us for having made the mistake. We condemn ourselves for making the mistake. And eventually, we begin to feel unworthy of new opportunities for greatness…ultimately seeing our mistake as a personal shortcoming and resulting in feelings of being less valuable than those around us. What we’ve failed to realize is that practically every successful person “failed forward.” They faced challenges head-on, fell, then, got back up stronger time and time again. They were able to do so because they lived by the principle that you win some and you learn some. While no one likes making mistakes, there’s a lesson that we should take away from each one. Those lessons are what strengthen us and enable us to enjoy success in the face of future challenges. The lessons are what can lead to better habits, keen focus and determination…and ultimately a flourishing finish. So, what we should do is seek to find the lesson in the experience, because dwelling on our mistakes can lead to our hesitance to take healthy risks, personally and professionally, that could profoundly impact our station in life. So, next time you, or I, make a mistake, lets stand up, accept responsibility for our actions, dust ourselves off, apologize as necessary, establish a plan to avoid making the same mistake again and commit to sticking to your plan. Then remember your plan, follow your plan, and move forward with confidence. So, I say it again, “Forget the mistake, but remember the lesson.”
