Hello and welcome to this motivational moment entitled, “Don’t Call It A Dream. Make It A Plan,” with Cynthia O.
MOTIVATION:
Happy 2023 to you! I am so excited for what God has in store for us all. I hope you are, too. The last half of 2022 was a little rough for me. For two months last summer, I wore an orthopedic boot after injuring my left Achilles tendon. Then, after having favored my left foot, my right foot hurt for the remainder of the year…resurrecting the effects of barely having an arch, otherwise known as being “flat-footed.” Now, I’m focused on healing, which could include surgery.
I must admit, though, that I initially resisted even the possibility of surgery, so it stressed me out. But I am so tired of being in pain and have only been able to dream of being able to exercise regularly and go on walks comfortably. So, I’ve slowly embraced surgery as a part of my treatment plan that will restore me to health.
Like me, you may be dreaming of making a major life change. It may be career, financial, spiritual, relationship, health-related, or otherwise. It could be that new year’s resolution that you’ve made to yourself.
What actions steps have you taken to get closer to achieving it? Is your answer, “None?” If so, could your mindset be holding you back? You see, many of us have been conditioned to think of dreams as long shot, pie in the sky aspirations that we likely won’t achieve. That little voice in our head tells us that it’s not possible. So, what do we do? We hesitate on taking steps towards achieving our goal. We subsequently don’t make progress.
At the start of this new year, I invite you to transition your dreams into plans. Write your goal down. Then list the action steps that you need to take to get closer and closer to making it a reality. Remember that small steps count just as much as big steps. Why? Because they get you closer to your goal.
Check off each action step as you complete it. Journal about your journey to success. Share what you’ve enjoyed, as well as what frustrated you, etc. You will get more motivated to take additional steps. If you miss a day, just get back in step the next day. So, keep it simple. Concentrate on one plan at a time so that you don’t get overwhelmed. Then celebrate your progress by rewarding yourself with a gold star, a badge, or a smiley face.
When you reach your goal, celebrate bigger. Maybe reward yourself with a new scented candle or a bubble bath. Remember, relaxation is key to success. Treat yourself to your favorite drink or sweet treat, a new piece of clothing, an accessory, or lunch or dinner with a friend. You will remember your progress each time you see or think about your experience. And it will make you smile.
I see you in the future. You’ve completed your plan and are enjoying the fruits of your perseverance. Congratulations! You’ve earned it!
