Welcome to my motivational moment entitled, “There is Power in Kindness,” with Cynthia O.
MOTIVATION:
Have you ever seen someone who was having a difficult time? I know. You’re probably saying to yourself, “I’ve seen plenty of people having a difficult time.” A mom may be trying to get her small child and her groceries into the car. A driver could be stuck on the side of the road because their car broke down or they ran out of gas. Someone could run short on money to pay for a purchase at the store. Another person could be patiently waiting to make a turn during heavy traffic and you’re the only one who lets them in. Maybe someone has lost a loved one.
It is during these times that even the smallest act of kindness could turn that person’s day around and make them smile. On February 1, 2020, my little Chihuahua, Raven, and I were rear-ended by a distracted driver as we sat at a red light on our way to her groomer. We were able to get out of the car safely and onto the sidewalk thanks to the quick action of a husband and wife, who owned a business nearby. Mr. Kevin, the husband, brought a chair out to the sidewalk or me while we waited for the police and the tow truck. Then, he put his jacket around me to keep me warm.
As I looked out at my totaled Nissan Murano, I started to cry. Ms. Jackie, Mr. Kevin’s wife, hugged me, thanked God that we were okay then told me that God had my back. She said, “You can get another car.” She was so right. Besides a hurt back and leg, and some bruises, I was reasonably fine. Little Raven was terrified, but not physically hurt. The even bigger blessing was that at the last minute, our Son got out of my car and decided to go with his dad instead. So, I was crying tears of joy because I couldn’t help but think how much worse the outcome could have been.
When my husband and son got to the accident scene, Mr. Kevin even helped then get everything out of my SUV and into my husband’s car. They didn’t have to do what they did…but they did. They were my guardian angels. Their kindness during that difficult situation made it a bit more bearable. So, when friends and family asked me about the accident, I typically focused more on Mr. Kevin’s and Ms. Jackie’s kindness than I did the accident itself.
That experience made look harder for ways to help others through their difficult moments. Just think, a few kind words, a caring gesture, a smile, or a little time, can make a world of difference for someone. Believe it or not, it will also make you feel better. I say, “Lets start a kindness revolution!”
