Hello and Welcome to this motivational moment entitled, “What’s Your Self Talk” with Cynthia O.

MOTIVATION:

My manager, who is also a creator, knows that I like to write. So, a while back, she gave me a gift called, “What’s Your Word?” It’s a card game that asks meaningful questions to help you find your word. You can play alone, with a partner, or a group. MyIntent.org, its creator, set out on a mission to help people have meaningful conversations that lead to positive action, through self reflection, deeper relationships, and group connections. Needless to say, I cherish such a thoughtful gift. Its great for getting my creative juices flowing.

This game reminds me of the significance of words in our lives. When used constructively, words inform, encourage, inspire, cheer us up, and motivate us. But, when we use them destructively, they can depress, discourage, devalue, and hurt us.

We may not think about it much, but our most important words are the ones we say to ourselves. Our words to ourselves create our self talk…the words we say to ourselves silently and aloud. You see, the wrong self talk kills dreams and aspirations. This is why the Bible tells us that the power of life and death lies in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).

Unfortunately, instead of talking to ourselves positively, we often put ourselves down. We compare ourselves to how others look; what others do; and what they have. Then we tell ourselves that we don’t look good enough; we don’t do enough; and we don’t have enough. But instead of motivating ourselves, we’re tearing ourselves down and killing our own self esteem. Proverbs 15:4 tells us that a gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.”

Remember, David said in the Bible that he learned to encourage himself. Why? Because we can’t count others to encourage us. We must know our own unique value, appreciate it, be thankful for it, and speak proudly about our looks, our skills, our accomplishments, our precious lives and realize how blessed we are to embody them.

So, use your self talk to build yourself up mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Then, you’ll become a person who spreads the love to those around you and helps them to improve their self talk.
