Mindset – Your Number 1 Job Search Success Tool

INTRODUCTION:

There has been a lot of talk, in the news especially about companies, large companies, like Google, Meta, and Twitter, laying employees off. And, this can be a very traumatic experience to anyone. Believe you me, I know how it feels because I’ve been through it.

Because I’m in Employee Relations, Human Resources, I have had to have those conversations with employees as well. I’ve had to tell them that they no longer have a job. That’s our lively-hood, so it’s understandable how a layoff or a discharge could impact us negatively. So, today, I want to talk to you about your number one thing, or tool, that you need in your job search arsenal to have a successful job search.

NUMBER ONE TOOL:

I know that a lot of you are probably thinking that it’s a great resume or an awesome cover letter. Yes, those are important, but your number one tool in your job search arsenal is your mindset. You see. either losing a job, or anticipating the loss of a job can negatively impact our confidence. This is a time when you don’t need those negative thoughts. If there is ever a time when you need to exude confidence in your job-related experience and your unique characteristics and qualifications that you bring to the table, is at the time of job loss.

So, find inspirational readings. For me, it’s scripture. It’s prayer. It’s confiding in one trusted source who I know I can go to and know that they will encourage me, lift me up, and remind me of everything I have to offer to a potential new employer.

Also, even making up your mind to find another job while you’re still gainfully employed. We often make that decision because we no longer feel that we’re valued by our current employer. The reason’s why we decide to make a career change can have some negative impacts on us as well. We may not feel that our skill set is being developed or fully utilized. So, we often start to hear those small negative voices in our head that make us second guess our decision as well.
