Welcome to this motivational moment entitled, “Doubt Kills More Dreams Than Failure Ever Will,” with Cynthia O.

MOTIVATION:

Last week, in my “Change is Good” motivational moment, I shared one of my most memorable quotes. It was, “Fear kills more dreams than failure ever could.” So, as you can see from the graphic that above, I got it a little wrong…mainly because I used the word fear instead of doubt. But then, I thought, “Did I really get it wrong?” Then after thinking it over, I’ve decided that I really didn’t get it wrong. You know why? It’s because doubt is the fear of things not turning out the way we hoped. The fear of being embarrassed. The fear of having to start over. The fear of not being in control. The fear of disappointment. The fear of not living up to expectations…ours or others.’  The fear of the unknown. And what does fear do? It distracts us.

Last Sunday, my pastor spoke about Peter walking on water. He started with his faith in Jesus, but then he became distracted and lost his faith and began to sink. Just like with Peter, doubt and fear distract us. If we’re not careful, we can become so focused on the distractions of life that we waste time that we could use to pursue our dreams. Before we know it, so much precious time goes by that we think we couldn’t possibly pick up the pieces again and restart where we left off. We are so busy doubting ourselves, that we don’t give success a chance to even try and overcome failure. We accept failure by default. That’s how doubt and fear kill our dreams.

So, with this year, I rebuke fear, doubt and every other type of hinderance that tries to root itself in my life. May you do the same and make marked progress towards realizing your dreams.
