Be Your Own Hero

WELCOME:

Welcome to this motivational moment entitled, “Be Your Own Hero,” with Cynthia O.

MOTIVATION:

You know, we often admire others. We admire their looks, their abilities, their intelligence, or their accomplishments. There is absolutely nothing wrong with admiring others. We should always readily recognize the unique value that we each bring to this world. We should allow our healthy admiration for others to inspire us to our own greatness. But, when that healthy admiration turns into jealousy, we begin to minimize our own value. And, if we’re not careful, we start to idolize that other person and wish that we were like them, or had what they have, because we see that person as more effective, more useful, more resourceful, smarter, more-equipped, or more valuable than we are. Instead, we should accept that each one of us is valuable in our own unique way…fulfilling a different, intricate, vitally-important purpose in the circle of life.  There are people who depend on us to make a difference in their lives. They may be our spouse, our children, our parents, a neighbor, a co-worker, a fellow church member, a young person, or a complete stranger, who looks to us for encouragement, wise counsel, a smile during a challenge, or protection from harm. We’re their hero in our own right. So, instead of looking outside of ourselves for a hero, lets learn to value our own unique gifts equally as much as we do others.’ Since we’re likely already someone else’s hero, why can’t we also become our own hero, while maintaining our healthy admiration for others? Believe me, God has instilled enough greatness amongst all of us to go around and positively impact the world several times over.
