Hello and Welcome to this motivational moment entitled, “Find Joy In The Journey,” with Cynthia O.
MOTIVATION:
I know that it sounds cliché, but life is a journey. It doesn’t take long to realize that the journey is sprinkled with all types of experiences. Some of them are enjoyable and some of them are not so enjoyable. I call them “peaks” and “valleys.” If you’re anything like me, you love the peaks. Why? It’s because, during life’s peaks that we’re flying high on life and feel like we can conquer the world. During our valley experiences, though, we often feel unbalanced and uncertain, overwhelmed and sometimes isolated.
You’ve probably noticed that I was missing in action for several weeks. Well, it was because, all within three days during the last week of January, I encountered a life peak and a valley. The valley came on January 24th when our family lost my dear brother-in-law, James Lee Rogers, after his valiant four-year battle against pancreatic cancer. Then, on January 27th, my husband and I closed on our dream home. Since then, I found it difficult to concentrate. I also felt guilty that my sister, Anita, is hurting and missing her high school sweetheart and husband of 34 years, and my nephews, Justin and Joshua mourned the loss of their father… all while my husband, our son, and I celebrated the manifestation of a desire of our hearts.
Of course, I took time to go home and support my sister and nephews. But, when I got back home, I still found myself feeling a little down. Amazingly, my sister inspired me. She was so gracious that after the funeral, she even told Mom that she should come back to Georgia with me to help us get organized. She is taking it one day at a time. She admits when she has horrible days. She has asked others, like our mom, who have walked this road to healing for advice. Then, she recently went on a getaway. I can only imagine how difficult her “new normal” must be, but she hasn’t given up on life. She’s a trooper.
She is a shining example of finding joy in the journey. So, if you’re having a valley experience right now,
- Know that it won’t last always.
- Surround yourself with positive, faith-filled, praying warriors.
- Lean on a your trusted inner circle for support when you need a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on.
- Don’t hold your tears in. Let them flow because they help to cleanse our soul.
- Seek counseling from trained professionals who can help you move along the journey in a healthy way.
- Try to recall happier times and believe, claim, and affirm that more joy is in your future.
- Finally, know that I am praying for your restoration, peace, protection, and the triumphant return of your joy.
